PALO PINTO, Texas (AP) Wildfires have broken out in a North Texas community devastated by 2011 blazes that destroyed about 200 homes. No injuries have been reported in the wildfires that scorched about 130 acres near Possum Kingdom Lake. The fires broke out late yesterday afternoon.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) Counseling will be offered in a South Texas sheriff's department where violence has included a jailer losing part of an ear in a fight with another officer. Bexar County Sheriff Susan Pamerleau says a peer support group and a volunteer chaplain program could also help stem the problems. Both jailers involved in the fight on Sunday are now on administrative leave.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The Texas Safety Summit will focus on workplace issues such as distracted driving. The Department of Insurance-sponsored event runs today through Thursday in Austin. Officials say CFAN Company in San Marcos and Carrollton-based BeautiControl will be honored tomorrow for their occupational safety and health programs.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) Parts of a flood Central Texas city hall will stay closed a few more days as cleanup continues. A spokesman for the city of College Station says affected staffers likely will be able to move back into their offices around the end of the week. Heavy rain last Thursday caused a drain to clog and water eventually poured into some offices.
