HOUSTON (AP) A nonprofit that offers free shotguns and firearms training to residents of high-crime areas has made a Houston neighborhood the site of its first gun giveaway. Residents of the Oak Forest neighborhood, which has been hit by a rash of burglaries and robberies, say they are grateful for the self-defense help from the Armed Citizen Project.
WEST, Texas (AP) Almost two months after their school was severely damaged in the deadly explosion at a nearby fertilizer plant, West High School's senior class has graduated. The ceremony for the more than 110 graduates on Friday focused on the students and the future, though there were reminders of the April 17th tragedy.
BREAUX BRIDGE, La. (AP) A Beaumont, Texas woman has died after a towed vehicle broke loose and hit another car. Louisiana State Police said the accident happened on Interstate 10 east of Breaux Bridge. Twenty-four-year-old passenger Grace Lee died from her injuries. The driver, Alycee Henley, also of Beaumont, was injured.
CHANDLER, Okla. (AP) Police in Chandler, Oklahoma have identified a body found in a motel room as that of a West Texas man. Police Chief Matt Mattheyer told KWTV that the body of 41-year-old Sam Brock of Odessa was found Friday morning at the Lincoln Motel. Mattheyer says that two suspects have been arrested.
