GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) Texas Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst says abortion opponents need to fill the halls of the Capitol when lawmakers consider a tough abortion restrictions bill again. Dewhurst spoke yesterday morning to the National Right to Life conference near Dallas. Dewhurst presides over the Senate, where a filibuster by Democratic Senator Wendy Davis of Fort Worth and hundreds of vocal protesters helped block the bill at deadline last week.

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (AP) Texas sheriff's deputies have fatally shot a teenage boy carrying a knife. Guadalupe County Sheriff Arnold Zwicke told the San Antonio Express-News Friday that a 16-year-old boy approached two of his deputies aggressively with a knife and was shot by both them. The boy's name had not been released.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A Texas grand jury has declined to indict a sheriff's deputy who fatally shot a man in 2011. The Austin American-Statesman reported Friday that Travis County Sheriff's Deputy Carlos Rodriguez was a member of the SWAT team sent to apprehend 31-year-old Joshua Samuelson near Elroy. A sheriff's spokesman says Samuelson was suicidal and confronted officers with a loaded weapon.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) A former Catholic priest serving a 50-year sentence for sexually abusing a boy has been denied an early medical release. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that 72-year-old Thomas Teczar had applied for early release, seeking to serve only four years of his sentence.
