BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) Southeast Texas police say no injuries were reported after several cars from a train derailed in downtown Beaumont. Authorities say the derailment happened yesterday afternoon. The rail cars were carrying grain and a large amount spilled in the area. Cleanup will begin today.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Fire department officials say a discarded cigarette caused a fire at an Austin apartment complex that displaced about 50 residents. No injuries were reported in the blaze yesterday morning, which caused about $350,000 in damages. Authorities say the complex didn't have any sprinklers.
MARFA, Texas (AP) Texas officials say Playboy has 45 days to remove a neon-lit 40-foot high sculpture of the magazine's bunny logo from a West Texas road. The state Department of Transportation ordered the removal of the sign called "Playboy Marfa," because the company doesn't have a license for outdoor advertisement in Texas. Playboy officials say the company hasn't violated any laws.
McALLEN, Texas (AP) Police say the seizure of about 2,000 pounds of marijuana has led investigators to an underground drug bunker beneath the foundation of a South Texas home. The bunker was discovered Wednesday when authorities arrested two men on drug charges. McAllen police Chief Victor Rodriguez says it appears the smuggling group used the bunker to try to hide the smell of the drugs.
