BOSTON (AP) Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas is heading to New Hampshire as part of a summer swing through early voting states on the presidential calendar. The freshman senator, a tea party favorite thought to be weighing a 2016 presidential bid, is scheduled to headline an August 23rd fundraiser for the New Hampshire GOP.
WEST, Texas (AP) Governor Rick Perry says the abortion bill awaiting his signature to become Texas law isn't unconstitutional and will withstand court challenges by those who oppose it. Perry made the remarks yesterday prior to a fundraiser in the town of West for those continuing to recover from the fertilizer plant explosion in April. Democrats promise a legal challenge.
DALLAS (AP) Lawyers for a Dallas district attorney say the judge who cited him for contempt disparaged him in a private conversation after the citation was issued. The Dallas Morning News reports that a subpoena was issued Friday for State District Judge Lena Levario to appear at a hearing tomorrow to determine whether a contempt citation she issued against Craig Watkins should be upheld.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Beyonce held a moment of silence for Trayvon Martin during last night's concert just hours after George Zimmerman was found not guilty of murder by a Florida jury. The Houston-native took a moment to honor the slain teen during her concert in Nashville, Tennessee. After asking the crowd to be silent, she sang the chorus of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You".
