AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The Texas Senate and House could wrap up the second special session today by approving a proposed constitutional amendment increasing funding for road and bridge construction. Lawmakers may approve a reconciliation of separate transportation bills both chambers have already passed. The proposals would each let voters decide on the amendment in November.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) The owner of a natural gas drilling rig that's on fire off Louisiana's coast says preparations are underway for the possible drilling of a relief well. Federal inspectors say a light sheen was spotted around the rig in the Gulf of Mexico yesterday evening. Officials and scientists agree the latest incident won't be anywhere near as damaging as the BP oil spill in 2010.
DEL RIO, Texas (AP) An Alabama man has pleaded guilty to assaulting Border Patrol agents with his car in a West Texas incident that ended in a deadly vehicle crash. Thirty-nine-year-old David Steiner entered the plea yesterday in Del Rio. Agents pursued Steiner on May 25th before he crashed into an oncoming vehicle, killing two people.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) A police affidavit says Fort Worth officers answering a burglary call were at the wrong house and had poor light when they fatally shot an armed homeowner. The affidavit says two officers inadvertently began searching for a suspect at the wrong home before dawn on May 28th. Seventy-two-year-old Jerry Waller was killed in the incident. Police are still investigating.
