FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) A North Texas police officer shot while serving a capital murder warrant in the slaying of a 6-year-old girl has been discharged from a hospital. Detective Charles Lodatto was released yesterday. That's nearly a week after being wounded while investigating the death of Alanna Gallagher.

MIDLAND, Texas (AP) A West Texas man faces up to 20 years in prison for using his vehicle to try to kill a law enforcement officer. Zachery Madrid has pleaded guilty to attempted murder of a federal agent. Prosecutors dropped another count of attempted murder of a federal agent and two counts of assault.

LA PORTE, Texas (AP) Nobody has been hurt in a Houston-area chemical plant fire blamed on an electrical problem. A transformer and a truck being used by a contractor at Oxy Vinyls in La Porte went up in flames. The blaze was extinguished after a couple of hours.

ATLANTA (AP) Cousins Properties has reached a deal to buy a portfolio of 11 office buildings in Texas for $1.1 billion. The deal includes 10 buildings with 4.4 million square feet of office space in Houston and a 980,000 square-foot office tower in Fort Worth. The properties are being sold by Crescent Real Estate Holdings.
