AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The Texas Senate has passed the two items on the third special session agenda less than an hour after being called back. The Senate referred a constitutional amendment and another bill concerning transportation funding to the Senate Finance Committee. The committee passed it in 10 minutes. The full Senate passed it 30 minutes later.
ROCKPORT, Texas (AP) A South Texas jailer has been fired and charged with groping a female inmate while she was on kitchen duty. Paul Noel has been charged with violating the civil rights of a person in custody and improper sexual activity with a person in custody. Noel says the incidents were consensual.
EULESS, Texas (AP) Hundreds gathered at a North Texas high school to mourn three students who died in a one-car accident. Polo Manukainiu (mah-NOO'-ky-uh-noo) was a Texas A&M Aggies redshirt freshman last season. Gaius Vaenuku (GYE'-uhs vah-eh-NOO'-koo) was training for the Utah Utes. The third was incoming Trinity freshman Andrew Uhatafe (oo-HAH'-tah-fay).
DALLAS (AP) A Dallas man says he's shocked to have been swamped with a nearly $67,000 erroneous water bill a few months after a similar computer error. Tom Hoffman canceled automatic payments earlier this year after getting a water bill for more than $66,000. The City of Dallas says the stuck meter has been replaced and accurate billing will follow.
