FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) Army Major Hidal Hasan offered no emotion during most of his 14-day trial. The American-born Muslim never disputed being the shooter in the 2009 rampage at Fort Hood, Texas, that killed 13 soldiers and wounded more than 30 people. He says he was protecting Muslim insurgents abroad. Beginning Monday, the jury's 11 men and two women will be tasked with deciding whether to sentence him to death or only life in prison without parole.
ANNA, Texas (AP) Authorities say a North Texas woman has died after the roof of a barn blown off by strong winds landed on her. Collin County sheriff's Lt. John Norton says the woman and a man were working on the property east of Anna when the roof blew off on yesterday. The man was taken to an area hospital.
DALLAS (AP) The teen accused of being the leader of a group charged in the burning death of a 4-month-old puppy in Dallas has agreed to a five-year plea bargain. Nineteen-year-old Darius Ewing received the sentenced yesterday. He pleaded guilty Tuesday to a single animal cruelty county. The 4-month-old lab terrier named by Justice by his rescuers had suffered third-degree burns over most of his body and died several days later.

BRYAN, Texas (AP) A groundbreaking has been held for a new steel mill in Bryan that will be the largest private manufacturer in Brazos County. The groundbreaking was held Thursday for Axis Pipe and Tube, which is expected to be open in the summer of 2014. The facility will generate between 285 and 300 jobs in the short term, but may eventually generate up to 500.
