AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The Texas Supreme Court says it will consider whether the state has jurisdiction over same-sex divorces and the constitutionality the state's law banning same-sex marriage. The court will hold oral arguments on November 5th for two cases presented by Dallas and Austin same sex-couples who married legally outside of the state.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A well-known Lake Travis restaurant will be closing its doors Labor Day weekend after experiencing an estimated 50 percent drop in business attributed to near-record low lake levels. Gary Manley, co-owner of Carlos 'n Charlie's, tells the Austin American-Statesman the low lake levels have made it impossible for boaters to reach the restaurant by water.
KILLEEN, Texas (AP) Authorities say a 29-year-old Central Texas man has been arrested in the death last year of a man whose vehicle crashed into the backyard of a home after he'd been shot. Killeen police say Donald Lee Mitchell Junior was arrested Thursday at home in Harker Heights, located just outside of Killeen, by agents with the U.S. Marshal's Office. Mitchell had been been indicted Wednesday by a Bell County grand jury. He remained in the Bell County jail yesterday on $200,000 bond.
BRYAN, Texas (AP) A groundbreaking has been held for a new steel mill in Bryan that will be the largest private manufacturer in Brazos County. The groundbreaking was held Thursday for Axis Pipe and Tube, which is expected to be open in the summer of 2014.
