FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) The Army psychiatrist convicted of the 2009 Fort Hood rampage starts the sentencing phase of his trial today. Major Nidal Hasan (nih-DAHL' hah-SAHN') faces a possible rare death sentence in the U.S. military justice system. Hasan will spend the rest of his life in prison at a minimum.
BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) A suspect in an armed robbery was shot after he fired at police in Beaumont. A woman called yesterday for an ambulance saying her brother had a broken arm. Paramedics discovered it was a bullet wound. The man matched the description of the robbery suspect and officers found evidence linking him to the crime.
WESTMINSTER, Texas (AP) A toddler has been killed after her 4-year-old sibling struck her with a vehicle. Police say the older child got the keys to a pickup while their father was inside getting things to pack the truck. The child started the engine and put the truck into neutral. It rolled forward and hit the 16-month-old girl.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) Officials say no one was injured when an American Airlines flight en route to Dallas made an emergency landing in Little Rock. Officials say one of the engines went out and the pilot decided to land in Little Rock. Emergency crews were on hand but the plane landed safely. The plane had 135 people on board.
