PALESTINE, Ark. (AP) Arkansas State Police officials have identified the Texan they say fatally shot himself as troopers tried to stop his vehicle on Interstate 40 in eastern Arkansas. A State Police spokesman says troopers found 60-year-old Rex McCollum of Grapevine, Texas dead inside his vehicle from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a chase on Thursday.
WASHINGTON (AP) An Associated Press analysis of Border Patrol records finds that agents have racked up daily overtime at a cost of about $1.4 billion in the past six years, which averages out to two hours per day of overtime for every agent. Over the course of a year an agent can earn about $15,000 more than the base salary, but agents are limited to $35,000 in overtime annually. The overtime data comes as the number of illegal border crossers has allegedly hit a forty year low.
LAS VEGAS (AP) Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has won Nevada's Republican presidential caucuses, with Texas Congressman Ron Paul vying with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich for a distant second place. Votes were still being tallied late last night in Las Vegas' Clark County.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) Cable subscribers in Corpus Christi are scrambling to find other ways to watch the Super Bowl because of a prolonged financial dispute between Time Warner Cable and a TV station carrying today's game. NBC affiliate KRIS-TV is among four Corpus Christi stations owned by Cordillera Communications that have been blacked out for Time Warner subscribers since mid-December.
