EL PASO, Texas (AP) A state audit says the Texas Education Agency can't detect widespread cheating in its school accountability system. State Education Commissioner Michael Williams requested the audit to see how the TEA failed to detect widespread cheating ultimately exposed at the El Paso Independent School District in 2010.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott's tax returns show he's earned about $200,000 annually since 2010. But the filings don't reflect millions of tax-exempt dollars made from a settlement following his 1984 accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down. Abbott has made more than $5 million from suing the owner of a tree that fell on him.
WEST, Texas (AP) The West Trojans have kicked off their first season of football since a local fertilizer plant exploded. Last night's season opener is being played on a field that served as a triage station following the April 17 blast. The explosion leveled or damaged buildings for blocks around and killed 15 people.
ST. LOUIS (AP) Republican Texas Governor Rick Perry says he won't be the only governor trying to lure business away from Missouri. Perry says Missouri lawmakers should override Missouri Governor Jay Nixon's veto of an income tax cut. Nixon says the tax cut would imperil critical services like education.
