EL PASO, Texas (AP) A state audit has found that the Texas Education Agency is unable to detect widespread cheating on the state's school accountability system. The report says state education officials instead rely on school districts to police themselves. State Education Commissioner Michael Williams says the report points to TEA leadership failures under his predecessor.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has released his personal tax returns. They show the Republican gubernatorial candidate has earned about $200,000 annually since 2010. The filings don't reflect millions of tax-exempt dollars made from a settlement following his 1984 accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down.
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) A Lubbock County jury has sentenced a San Antonio trucker to 25 years in prison for beating a woman to death. Kenneth Dunn could become eligible for parole after serving 15 years in prison. Prosecutors had sought a life term from the eight-woman, four-man jury for the 2012 killing in the cab of Dunn's semitrailer rig.
HOUSTON (AP) A jury has awarded $32 million to the family of a Southeast Texas couple involved in a deadly crash with a Domino's Pizza delivery driver. The Jefferson County jury concluded chain was partially responsible for the death of Ruth Christopher. A Domino's delivery driver lost control of his car in Beaumont in 2012. His car hit a vehicle carrying Ruth and Devavaram Christopher. Ruth Christopher died the next day.
