EL PASO, Texas (AP) A state audit confirms that the Texas Education Agency failed to thoroughly investigate serious cheating allegations in the El Paso Independent School District. The TEA says it will create a new division to monitor its more than 1,000 districts.
WASHINGTON (AP) A trial over the government's lawsuit to block the proposed merger of American Airlines and US Airways will start in late November. The government wanted to start the trial in March but a judge went with the earlier timeline favored by the airlines. They say a long delay could threaten the merger.
DALLAS (AP) A judge has refused to throw out a blood test that showed former Dallas Cowboys player Josh Brent was driving drunk the night he crashed his car and a practice squad player was killed. Brent's attorneys argued his blood was drawn under an improper warrant.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A series of gun-related laws take effect in Texas on Sunday. The changes include reduced training hours to get a concealed handgun license, easier renewal and arming of school marshals at public and charter schools.
