WEST, Texas (AP) A weekend of sausage, sauerkraut and its famous kolaches is underway in West as the Central Texas town holds its signature celebration of its Czech heritage. It's the first Westfest since a deadly fertilizer plant explosion tore through the small community on April 17th.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) A spokeswoman for U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas says he plans to hunt pheasant with Iowa Congressman Steve King during a trip to the state in October. The trip is planned for October 26th near the northwest Iowa city of Akron. Cruz will speak at a GOP event in Des Moines on October 25th.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A divided Texas Supreme Court has overturned a ruling that would have denied 52 North Texas Episcopal church properties from a breakaway sect. By a 5-4 vote, justices overturned a summary judgment that had granted the national Episcopal Church the properties. The conservative-leaning Fort Worth Episcopal diocese had sued for ownership of those properties after it broke away from the national church over the consecration of gay bishops and the ordination of women.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) Authorities say two men, including an active member of the U.S. Army, have been linked to a "transnational criminal organization" involved in smuggling immigrants through New Mexico. A criminal complaint says Fort Bliss-based soldier Carlos Vives Feliciano and Gerald Espinoza helped transport groups of Mexican immigrants suspected of being in the country illegally from Columbus, New Mexico to other locations.
