AUSTIN, Texas (AP) An Austin police officer has shot and wounded a man who he says twice rammed his car into a police cruiser. Police Chief Art Acevedo says the incident occurred early Saturday when officers responded to an alarm call. Acevedo says the officer fired in self-defense, injuring the 48-year-old driver. The driver is being treated in the hospital. The passenger is in custody and the officer involved in the shooting is on standard administrative leave.
HOUSTON (AP) Houston police are investigating a robbery at a game room in which a woman was shot and killed. The Houston Chronicle reports the incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. Friday. The shooting occurred at a game room near Houston's Hobby Airport. The victim has not been identified and the suspects remain at large.
HOUSTON (AP) Officials say Houston's top prosecutor Mike Anderson has died after battling cancer. He was 57. Joe Stinebaker, a spokesman for Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, said officials were informed that the Harris County District Attorney had died on Friday evening. No information was immediately available on a cause of death.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) Number 7 Texas A and M announced the suspensions of four players for two games just minutes before yesterday's 52-31 thumping of Rice. Cornerback De'Vante Harris, linebacker Steven Jenkins, defensive end Gavin Stansbury and receiver Edward Pope have all been suspended for the first two games of the season for violating team rules.
