HARLINGEN, Texas (AP) Farmers in the Rio Grande Valley are reporting major crop losses worth millions of dollars due to a devastating drought in South Texas. This growing season has been the worst since 2006. Farmers who work non-irrigated land lost 88 percent of their crop to drought.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) Bexar County authorities say an off-duty officer has shot and killed an unarmed motorist in San Antonio. The deputy and another man apparently had a minor car crash. The two pulled over and started arguing. Authorities say the officer "fired multiple shots, hitting the other driver."
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) The Coast Guard and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department are looking for a fisherman overdue from a fishing expedition in San Antonio Bay. Joseph Ames has gray hair and was wearing fishing attire. Several crews have been searching with helicopters, jets and boats.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A historically black college in Austin has closed its only campus bookstore and moved to sell books and course materials exclusively online. Huston-Tillotson University closed its campus bookstore in June. The new online store offers books by class and allows students clicking on a particular course to see a list of required books.
