KILLEEN, Texas (AP) There is a new push by some federal lawmakers from Texas to list the Fort Hood shooting as a terrorist attack. Some victims and relatives say the government's decision to classify the 2009 rampage as workplace violence deprives them of some benefits they deserve, including tax breaks and some combat-related pay.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The first black member of the Texas Supreme Court is resigning at the end of the month. Chief Justice Wallace Jefferson has been on the state's highest civil court for a dozen years and his current term runs through 2014. Jefferson says he plans to spend more time with his family. He doesn't have another job lined up.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) An Arlington man accused of killing his mother is in jail and being held without bond. Johnathan Peter Lannon was arrested last night after a woman called 911 and said she feared for her safety because her son had a gun. Officers went to a home and found Melanie Spencer shot. She later died at a hospital.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) People will be able to fly non-stop between Austin and London starting next year. British Airways says it will have five direct flights per week beginning in March and daily flights will start in early May. The carrier's air-fare sale featuring Austin routes runs until September 24th.
