AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott reports raising more than $1 million in August for his Republican gubernatorial run. Abbott has continued a robust fundraising pace since launching his campaign in July, when he entered the race having already raised nearly $23 million. He is the early favorite to replace retiring Governor Rick Perry, who is not seeking re-election after 14 years.
HOUSTON (AP) Prosecutors say two Houston women have been charged with luring workers from the Philippines with false claims of medical jobs in the U.S. A federal indictment unsealed yesterday in Houston names 38-year-old Monica Castro and 54-year-old Blessilda Lagron. Both were arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit visa fraud and were later freed on bond.
HOUSTON (AP) Houston is working to solidify its place in the commercial space race with an ongoing effort to build the nation's latest spaceport. The city is currently working to apply for a federal license to run a spaceport. Houston's proposed facility would be located at Ellington Airport, the current home to the Houston area's military and NASA flights.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) Several Texans are going door to door in Colorado working for for the recall of pro-gun control lawmakers in the Centennial State. Sandy and Lonnie Phillips of San Antonio they plan to continue canvassing with other pro-gun rights volunteers until the recall election ends Tuesday.
