AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The commander of the Texas National Guard wants a legal opinion about granting benefits to same-sex couples in the military. He's asking Attorney General Greg Abbott for guidance on how to reconcile conflicting federal and state rules. The Texas Constitution defines marriage as between a man and a woman. Abbott has been a vocal critic of same-sex marriage.
DALLAS (AP) A man arrested this morning in Arlington is being called a person of interest in a series of rapes in Dallas. Investigators say a serial rapist has attacked at least eight women near downtown along the edge of Fair Park since June.
HOUSTON (AP) Harris County sheriff's investigators say gang rivalry appears to be the motive in this week's fatal stabbing at Spring High School near Houston. Luis Alonzo Alfaro made a brief court appearance today where a judge reviewed the facts of the case. Alfaro is facing a murder charge in the death of Joshua Broussard. Classes at the school resume on Monday.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Federal prosecutors say a man sentenced to prison for laundering drug money for the Zetas cartel also tried to bribe a federal judge. Francisco Colorado Cessa, his son and a business associate were charged a day after Cessa was sentenced to 20 years. A prosecutor says the men offered the judge $1.2 million.
