HOUSTON (AP) A memorial service for a teenager stabbed to death in his Houston-area school was marred by a fight and gunfire. The altercation at Spring Baptist Church last night sent teenagers and other attendees scrambling for cover in the pews. No injuries were reported and no arrests were made.

Luis Alfaro has been charged with murder in the stabbing that left Joshua Broussard dead on the floor of a school corridor. Investigators say gang rivalry appears to be the motive in the slaying.
EL PASO, Texas (AP) A new education era has begun for El Paso's school district after a testing scandal sent an administrator to prison. Attorney Juan Eduardo Cabrera Jr. starts today as superintendent of the El Paso Independent School District. El Paso schools haven't had a permanent superintendent since Lorenzo Garcia was suspended in late 2011.
KAUFMAN, Texas (AP) An Army Ranger is suing to have his gun range reopened under an untested state law backed by the National Rifle Association. Adam Morgan opened a range on 100 acres of land. The county's district attorney said residents near the range were at "immediate risk" and obtained a temporary injunction.
