DALLAS (AP) Police say DNA evidence has linked a crime-watch volunteer to four of as many as eight sexual assaults reported over two months in a Dallas neighborhood. Van Dralan Dixson is not yet in custody. Dixson had been charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault relating to a rape and robbery in the Fair Park neighborhood.
SPRING, Texas (AP) Hundreds of mourners have paid tribute to a high school student fatally stabbed last week at a suburban Houston high school. Family and friends packed Spring Baptist Church to attend a funeral service for Joshua Devon Broussard. More than 70 law enforcement officers also were on hand to provide security.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) A daylong police standoff that began with the shooting of a San Antonio police officer has ended after nine hours. The man suspected of shooting a police officer about 8 a.m. at the motel was taken into custody. Police say the wounded officer was resting comfortably in a nearby hospital and was expected to recover.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A progressive watchdog group says publishers of biology textbooks that could be used in Texas high schools are being pressured to water down lessons on evolution and climate change. The left-leaning Texas Freedom Network says five of the 12 reviewers who participated in group sessions checking books were creationists who believe in intelligent design.
