ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) Six Flags Over Texas is reopening the ride from which a park-goer fell to her death this summer. The Texas Giant roller coaster will reopen this weekend. The ride will have new seat belts and redesigned restraint bar pads. Six Flags says its investigation into the July incident found no mechanical failure on the ride.
DALLAS (AP) A police affidavit says DNA evidence links a suspected serial rapist to an attack in which an assailant shooed away his victim's children before he attacked her. The affidavit alleges a masked man approached a woman as she walked with her children on a street in Dallas' Fair Park neighborhood. Van Dralan Dixson was arrested in connection with the attack yesterday.
EDINBURG, Texas (AP) A state trooper who fired from a helicopter on a fleeing pickup truck and killed two Guatemalan immigrants has been cleared by a grand jury. A Hidalgo County grand jury decided against indicting Trooper Miguel. The DPS said Avila believed drugs were in the truck as it sped near schools when he opened fire near La Joya.
DALLAS (AP) The Texas Book Festival has announced the lineup of more than 225 authors set to attend the upcoming event in Austin. The lineup will include authors of everything from cookbooks, novels and non-fiction to children's books and memoirs. The festival will be held next month in and around the Texas Capitol.
