SAN ANTONIO (AP) A Spring Branch man who served time for dealing firearms without a license has been charged with selling a weapon to an undercover officer at an Austin gun show. Police say Manuel Rodriguez sold a pistol to an undercover officer for $650. Rodriguez served nearly four years in prison on a 2002 California conviction for possession of a machine gun and dealing firearms without a license.
HOUSTON (AP) A leader of a gang that started in Texas prisons faces at least 10 years behind bars and a fine of up to $10 million after pleading guilty to distribution of heroin. Eric Gomez will be sentenced later this year. Prosecutors describe Gomez as a general in the Texas Mexican Mafia prison gang.
HOUSTON (AP) A Houston man has been sentenced to nearly 13 years in prison in a $20 million money laundering and peso swap scheme linked to drug-related cash. Willie Whitehurst is the last of five defendants to plead guilty and head to prison. A 2012 indictment outlined the black market peso exchange scam going back to 2009.
SPRING, Texas (AP) Spring High School will use metal detectors for the rest of the year after a student was stabbed last week. More than 70 students have withdrawn while 17 have been enrolled since the September 4th attack. A 17-year-old student is jailed on a murder charge in the slaying.
