WASHINGTON (AP) There is a Texas connection in today's shooting rampage at the Washington Navy Yard. The Navy says a gunman who opened fire was Aaron Alexis, a 34-year-old reservist who worked in Fort Worth and left the Navy in 2011. He is one of 13 people killed.
HOUSTON (AP) A woman who watched a friend bleed to death during the Fort Hood shootings says she was shaking while she watched the Navy Yard news unfold today at a doctor's office. Other survivors and relatives of those killed at Fort Hood say today's events have brought back terrible memories of the 2009 shootings.
HOUSTON (AP) Thirteen people opposed to the Keystone XL oil pipeline were arrested during a protest today outside the Houston office of TransCanada. They are charged with trespassing. The demonstrators say they're concerned about spills and other potential environmental problems from the pipeline, which awaits federal approval.
EL PASO, Texas (AP) Border Patrol agents have arrested five people they say attacked agents with rocks last night in El Paso. The Border Patrol says some vehicles were damaged by the rock throwers, who were trying to cross the border illegally. Three people dashed back into Mexico.
