HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) A former South Texas street gang member has been put to death for his involvement in the fatal shootings of four women during an ambush. Robert Garza became the 12th prisoner executed this year in Texas last night. Authorities say the Tri-City Bombers gang was responsible for the shootings of the four women near Donna in 2002.
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) Texas says it will keep using the same drug for its executions but won't say how it will replace its supply that expires this month. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has no immediate plans to switch from pentobarbital. The drug's manufacturers have refused to sell it to state prison agencies for death penalty use.
HOUSTON (AP) Houston's police chief has accepted a one-day suspension and will take a defensive-driving course after he hit a pedestrian while driving into work. Chief Charles McClelland says the September 4th accident was his fault. McClelland said he didn't see the man. The pedestrian suffered minor injuries.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) The transgender widow of a South Texas firefighter is asking a state appeals court to reverse a ruling that their marriage wasn't legally binding. Nikki Araguz was married to Wharton County volunteer firefighter Thomas Araguz when he died while fighting a fire three years ago. She says she's entitled to his death benefits.
