AUSTIN, Texas (AP) For the first time in Texas history, more Hispanic students than white ones took the SAT last school year. The Texas Education Agency announced today that in 2012 through 2013, participation in the college entrance exam by students statewide increased 0.2 percent from the previous year.
PLANO, Texas (AP) J.C. Penney is announcing that its senior vice president and controller Mark Sweeney has left the company. Separately, the Plano, Texas-based company said it is selling 84 million shares in a public offering. Shares slid 5 percent to $9.90 in after-hours trading after climbing nearly 3 percent during regular trading today.
IRVING, Texas (AP) Former President George W. Bush has kicked off the third annual Warrior Open golf tournament. The George W. Bush Presidential Center is hosting the three-day tournament that opened today at the Las Colinas Country Club in northern Irving, just west of Dallas. The 36-hole tournament features 24 wounded combat veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan.
HOUSTON (AP) Retail gasoline prices have tumbled 8 cents across Texas during the first week of fall. Triple A Texas on Thursday reported the statewide average price at the pump fell to $3.20 per gallon. Fort Worth has the cheapest gasoline across Texas at an average $3.15 per gallon. The association survey found Amarillo and the Austin area with the state's most expensive gasoline, going for $3.24 per gallon.
