WASHINGTON (AP) The Democratic-run Senate has approved legislation aimed at preventing a Tuesday federal shutdown. Today's vote of 54-44 came after Texas U.S. Senator Ted Cruz carried out a 21-hour-long filibuster against President Barack Obama's signature health care law from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday morning. Before the Senate approved the overall bill, it voted to remove House-passed language that would have blocked money for Obamacare.
NEW YORK (AP) Irving, Texas-based Exxon says it will begin offering benefits to legally married same-sex couples in the U.S. for the first time as of January 1st. The company says it will recognize "all legal marriages" when it determines eligibility for health care plans for the company's 77,000 employees and retirees in the U.S.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) A Texas motorcycle stuntman has won the right to try to re-create Evel Knievel's Snake River Canyon jump on the 40th anniversary of the failed effort. The Times-News reports Big Ed Beckley and Beckley Media LLC of Bridgeport, Texas bid $943,000 today for a two-year lease on the state land near Twin Falls where the jump took place in September 1974.
IRVING, Texas (AP) Dallas Cowboys receiver Miles Austin has been ruled out of Sunday's game at San Diego because of a hamstring injury. Austin has been slowed by hamstring issues the past two years after back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2009 and 2010. Former Baylor wide receiver Terrance Williams is expected to start in his place.
