(AP) Texas Governor Rick Perry says President Barack Obama's health care law is a failure and should be defunded, but he doesn't think shutting down the federal government is a good option. Perry spoke yesterday to hundreds of people gathered for the Conservative Political Action Conference in suburban St. Louis, Missouri. This past week, Texas Senator Ted Cruz led an unsuccessful filibuster to block funding for the health care law.
SAN JUAN, Texas (AP) Promoters of the federal health care law have spent months crisscrossing border communities in South Texas. They're tasked with explaining an initiative that state leaders have strongly denounced and refused to promote. On Tuesday, trained personnel across Texas will begin seeing how many of the state's 6 million uninsured will seek coverage through the health insurance marketplace during the next six months.
AMARILLO, Texas (AP) West Texas police say a 22-year-old man has been arrested after causing an auto collision that killed three people. Michael Kirk of Hereford (HER'-ferd) was being held without bond in the Potter County jail pending his arraignment yesterday. He's charged with three counts of accident causing injury or death.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) A man has been arrested after stealing a bus overnight at an airport near Texas A and M University and apparently gaining access to a passenger plane on the tarmac. University police say it's unclear what prompted 54-year-old David Thurmond of Bryan to enter Easterwood Airport early yesterday morning.
