He has crisscrossed the state since announcing in July that he's running to succeed Governor Rick Perry in next year's election. State Senator Wendy Davis launched her campaign for the Democratic nomination for governor last week.
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) A man involved in a custody dispute has been charged with killing his son at a Central Texas home where the boy's grandmother was also found slain. Howard Lewis is charged with capital murder in the death of his 18-month-old son. The body of Shanta Crawford was also discovered at the Huntsville-area residence by her husband.
WACO, Texas (AP) A former West paramedic is expected to plead guilty after being accused of collecting materials for a pipe bomb in a case unrelated to the deadly fertilizer plant explosion. Bryce Reed was charged with knowingly and unlawfully possessing a destructive device. A criminal complaint accuses Reed of leaving the pipe bomb materials with a friend who called authorities.
HOUSTON (AP) Two Houston airports have been adorned with dozens of pieces of art as part of a new exhibit catering to travelers. The Houston Airport System's first Portable Art Collection includes more than 100 items ranging from paintings to sculptures. The pieces are on display at William P. Hobby Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
