AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A candidate for state comptroller is proposing a Texas taxpayer bill of rights. Harvey Hilderbran says he would work to guarantee seven rights for taxpayers. Those include fair audits, a simple refund process and a legal resolution before Texans must pay disputed taxes.
BELTON, Texas (AP) A Central Texas trial involving a soldier carrying an assault rifle is expected to wrap up this week. Army Master Sergeant Christopher Grisham was arrested in March while hiking with his 15-year-old son. A Temple officer was responding to a call that the soldier was carrying an assault rifle. The officer testified he was worried about Grisham's reaction after approaching him.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Attorney General Greg Abbott is objecting to the sale of an online dating service's membership list. He argues customers should decide whether their "highly sensitive" personal information is transferred to another company. Abbott filed a motion with a federal bankruptcy judge overseeing the sale of assets belonging to True.com to Canadian dating site PlentyOfFish.com.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Fans at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth will be able to get a bacon-infused milkshake at the Texas 500 NASCAR races coming this month. The new creation follows in the footsteps of the speedway's famous bacon cotton candy. Executive chef Joel Pena created the concoction for the race.
