AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Advocacy groups are asking a federal judge to derail a strict new Texas abortion law. The law was the center of a high-profile summer filibuster. It requires doctors to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals to perform abortions. Planned Parenthood and other organizations have sued to block key parts of the law.
EL PASO, Texas (AP) An El Paso jury has found a man guilty of helping his mother kill his stepfather in 1977. Roger Garrett accused of killing Army Major Chester Garrett and leaving his body in his car in the desert east of El Paso. Roger Garrett's brother told authorities that his brother had admitted to killing Chester Garrett.
VIDOR, Texas (AP) Authorities in Vidor (VY'-dur) say a boy has been found dead by what appears to be an accidental gunshot. Police say a babysitter called authorities. The babysitter told authorities that the boy was in another room of a home when a noise rang out. Police say the boy appears to have accidentally fired a handgun.
BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) A South Texas woman has sued U.S. Customs and Border Protection alleging excessive use of force by a customs officer in Brownsville. The American Civil Liberties Union of Texas alleges that Laura Mireles suffered a miscarriage and other injuries when an officer threw her to the ground last year.
