WESTON LAKES, Texas (AP) A 27-year-old Fort Bend County man has been charged with two counts of murder for the slayings of his parents. Ross Lawrence appeared yesterday before a magistrate and was ordered held on $2 million bond. Deputies responding to a 911 call on Friday found the bodies of Steve and Sue Lawrence, both 61, on the driveway of their home in Weston Lakes, a small community west of Houston.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) The Nueces County sheriff says three of his jailers have quit after an investigation shows they were smuggling synthetic marijuana to inmates at the jail in Corpus Christi. Sheriff Jim Kaelin says the trio resigned after his department received a tip about the operation. Investigators reviewed surveillance video and then interviewed the deputies, who admitted to the smuggling.
DESOTO, Texas (AP) Police in the Dallas suburb of DeSoto have arrested five people, two of them juveniles, for the shooting death last week of a 16-year-old from Dallas. Authorities said Friday all five will be charged with capital murder for the October 17th slaying of Lovell Jenkins the Third.
DALLAS (AP) Some Dallas public schools closed the past two years in a cost-cutting move have become targets of vandals and thieves despite assurances from school officials the properties would be maintained. The Morning News reports some of the 11 schools shut by the Dallas Independent School District have been trashed, and stripped of pipes and copper items for scrap.
