BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) A drug smuggling-related conviction could cost commercial truck drivers their licenses for life. That's was a warning from the Border Patrol at a gathering of more than 80 truck drivers in Brownsville.

SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) A gunman who took his ex-girlfriend hostage has been shot and killed by a tactical team in Central Texas. Sheriff's deputies around 1 a.m. Friday responded to a report of a man with a gun at a business in Bulverde (bol-VER'-dee), just north of San Antonio. Authorities say the gunman took the 19-year-old woman before a pursuit began.

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) The children of a suburban Houston couple killed last Thanksgiving Day in a 100-vehicle pileup are suing a trucking firm, truck driver and other motorists. According to the suit, the trucker was driving too fast for conditions when the crash occurred west of Beaumont. Some 80 others were injured. Trial is set for next month.

DALLAS (AP) The Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in North Texas has announced that Bruce the cheetah has sired two litters of cubs. Three cubs were born last month and another five were born Nov. 6. The cubs and their mothers are being kept in "birthing yards" until they're old enough for public viewing at the center in Glen Rose.
