AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Governor Rick Perry says people in three Central Texas counties need White House help to continue the recovery from floods on Halloween. The governor is asking President Barack Obama for a disaster declaration. The flooding damaged hundreds of homes, mainly in the Austin area. Five people died.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Faculty leaders say politics are interfering with the selection of an interim president at Texas A&M. Governor Rick Perry has thrown his support to Guy Diedrich, a top A&M executive who doesn't come from academia. A&M regents could name their choice at a special meeting Saturday.

MINERAL WELLS, Texas (AP) Nine children went to the hospital after a crash involving a school bus Friday morning in Mineral Wells. But they're all OK. The bus was stopped at an intersection when a pickup truck slammed into it, then took off. Police later stopped the pickup and arrested the driver.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Two 107-year-old veterans from Texas have met for the first time to have lunch and swap war stories. Richard Overton of Austin and Elmer Hill of Henderson are among the oldest living vets in the nation. They both fought in the Pacific during World War II.
