WASHINGTON (AP) The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. has taken over a small bank in The Woodlands. Texas Community Bank NA is the 24th bank failure in the country this year. The lender, which operated two branches, had about $160.1 million in assets and $142.6 million in deposits as of Sept. 30.

EL PASO, Texas (AP) Cooperation with an FBI investigation means no jail time for two former public officials caught up in an El Paso County corruption scandal. Elizabeth Flores, a one-time county commissioner, received five years' probation and was ordered to pay a $25,000 fine. Fernando Parra was sentenced to time served.

NEW YORK (AP) A New York-based financial services firm says it has nearly completed a deal with American Airlines and insurance carriers to settle a lawsuit it brought after the Sept. 11 attacks killed 658 of its 1,000 employees. Cantor Fitzgerald's attorney told a judge a signed agreement may be ready by Tuesday.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas football coach Mack Brown isn't dropping any hints about whether he'll return to the Longhorns next season. He didn't address the question during the annual team banquet. Brown met with school President Bill Powers and athletic director Steve Patterson before the banquet. Patterson declined to say what was discussed.
