AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas says coach Mack Brown has stepped down and that the Alamo Bowl against Oregon on December 30th will be his last game with the Longhorns. Brown led the Longhorns to the 2005 national championship and ranks second at the school in career victories. He's stepping down after 16 seasons and one tumultuous week of reports and speculation that this was coming.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) Mark Hussey has been named interim president of Texas A and M University. University System regents voted unanimously yesterday to appoint Hussey, who comes from an academic background, to lead the 53,000-student campus. Hussey has been the system's vice chancellor and A and M's dean for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences since 2008.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) Officials suspect speeding was a factor in a one-car crash on a Southeast Texas university campus that killed three university students. The crash happened shortly before 5 a.m. yesterday on the Sam Houston State University campus in Huntsville, about 70 miles north of Houston. University spokeswoman Julia May identified the dead students as 19-year-old Blanca Espinal of Houston, 22-year-old Eric Torres of San Juan and a third student yet to be identified.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) Darrell Coleman is retiring as Corpus Christi Caller-Times president and publisher. The Caller-Times reports the 57-year-old veteran newspaper executive's retirement takes effect December 31st but his last day in the newspaper offices was Friday.
