MIDLAND, Texas (AP) A former Midland police officer faces a felony charge for allegedly posting explicit photos of a woman to a fake website the city says were meant to "harm, defraud and intimidate" her. The Midland Reporter-Telegram reports that 25-year-old Jaren Speck was fired and arrested Friday on a charge of online impersonation. He remained jailed Saturday in lieu of $15,000 bail.
HOUSTON (AP) Three suburban Houston police officers have been indicted on official oppression charges accusing them of using excessive force in a 'suicide by cop' situation. Officers Peter Behler, Colin Murphy and Daniel Bassett have been suspended with pay while the Webster Police Department investigates their actions in the September 27th incident. The indictment was issued on Thursday.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The daughter of the Austin police officer who fatally shot University of Texas Tower sniper Charles Whitman has now joined the Austin Police Department herself. Monika McCoy is the 42-year-old daughter of Houston McCoy, who shot Whitman dead and ended the 1966 slaughter that left 16 people dead and 32 others wounded.
EL PASO, Texas (AP) A former insurance company chief executive wants to withdraw his guilty plea to bribing El Paso-area public officials, a plea that brought him an eight-year prison sentence. Prosecutors say Francisco Apodaca made the payments in return for contracts with his company. The El Paso Times reports Apodaca wants to withdraw his plea and go to trial because his previous attorneys didn't discuss potential conflicts of interest with him, and no issues were raised by the court.
