HOUSTON (AP) Starting today, Houston residents will be able to begin taking the light rail more than five extra miles. It's the first addition to the system in nearly a decade. Metro, the city's public transportation agency, is hosting a grand opening celebration with musical performances, food booths and activities for kids. Rides on the new light rail line will be free today.
DALLAS (AP) Country Music Hall of Fame member Ray Price is being memorialized today in North Texas. The service is planned for 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, about 110 miles northeast of Dallas. Price died Monday at the ranch he owned with his wife, Janie, outside Mount Pleasant. He was 87.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) A San Antonio police officer has died, 12 days after being shot in the head during a high-speed chase. Robert Deckard died at a San Antonio hospital. Deckard's family issued a statement earlier in the week saying there was nothing more doctors could do to save the officer. His organs will be donated in the coming days.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) The Salvation Army says bundles of gifts intended for eight needy families have been stolen from a warehouse in North Texas. The bundles filled with items bought by donors from lists hung on Angel Trees were stolen Thursday night in Arlington. Police say they've found no sign of forced entry.
