HOUSTON (AP) Police are expanding their network of surveillance cameras in Houston. They're adding nearly 200 new cameras that will be pointed at public areas around downtown, stadiums and the theater district. The city has spent more than $18 million in federal money to build its camera system.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) A wake for a Burleson County sheriff's deputy killed last week is being held Thursday at a church in College Station. Thousands are expected for Adam Sowders' funeral on Friday. A man has been accused of shooting the deputy as investigators served a search warrant at a home near Somerville.

CEDAR HILL, Texas (AP) An attorney for a suburban Dallas homeowner says his client was justified in fatally shooting an intruder on Christmas Eve. Police have identified the man who was killed after climbing through a bedroom window as the stepson of Cedar Hill's mayor.

HOUSTON (AP) A suburban Houston man has been charged with a federal hate crime. Conrad Barrett of Katy is accused of punching a 79-year-old black man and breaking his jaw in an attack last month that was recorded with a cellphone. Prosecutors say Barrett was playing what's called the "knockout game" and had hoped his video would get national exposure.
