SAN ANTONIO (AP) A San Antonio high school has served as a tribute site for a police officer who died last week of wounds suffered while he was chasing suspects in a robbery. More than 50 friends, relatives and former classmates gathered at San Antonio Highlands High School on Friday night to remember Robert Deckard. He graduated from the school in 2000. Deckard was shot December 8th during a car chase that extended from San Antonio into neighboring Atascosa County.

LONGVIEW, Texas (AP) A 22-year-old East Texas man has been arrested in the death of a man found slain outside a car near a wooded area earlier this week. Longview police said Alejandro Garcia of Winona was arrested Friday on a charge of murder in the death of 19-year-old Andres Chavez. Garcia remained in Gregg County Jail on Saturday on $500,000 bond.

DALLAS (AP) A Dallas-based state district judge is free on bond after being arrested on assault and family violence charges. Carlos Raul Cortez, a civil court judge since 2006, was released on $15,000 bond after his arrest yesterday.

ABILENE, Texas (AP) Abilene police say they've found marijuana worth an estimated $1.6 million in an SUV they pulled over after getting calls about a reckless driver on a highway. Police Chief Stan Standridge tells the Reporter-News the 48-year-old woman driver was in obvious medical distress during the Christmas morning stop on Interstate 20 and told officers she'd been using methamphetamines.
