DENTON, Texas (AP) A flight instructor and a student pilot have escaped injury in the belly landing of their small plane at a North Texas airport. The incident happened Wednesday night at Denton Enterprise Airport. Airport officials say one of the men on board had radioed to say part of the landing gear on the Cessna 182 would not lock. Emergency responders were on hand during the landing.
KILLEEN, Texas (AP) A defendant who fled from a San Antonio courtroom last week during his aggravated assault trial has been captured about 150 miles away in Killeen. The Bexar (bayr) County Sheriff's Office says Christopher Jones remains in custody pending extradition to San Antonio. He was caught Wednesday. Jones was free on bond while facing charges that he beat his ex-girlfriend and set her home on fire in 2012.
DEL RIO, Texas (AP) A convicted drug trafficker in South Texas has been sentenced to 30 years in prison in a cocaine case with links to Illinois, Florida and Missouri. Twenty-seven-year-old Lauro Beltran of San Antonio also forfeited more than $578,000 found in a vehicle he was driving during his March 2011 arrest in Missouri. A jury last July convicted Beltran of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) After 11 years on the job, Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst says he plans to serve only one more term if re-elected in November. Dewhurst tells The Associated Press he sees himself returning to business full time to make back some of the millions of dollars he's spent on campaigns through the years. The Republican businessman used about $25 million of his personal fortune on a failed U.S. Senate bid in 2012 and millions more on five previous statewide campaigns.
