LA VILLA, Texas (AP) The La Villa (VEE'-yah) Independent School District board plans to meet this evening to consider offers on how to settle a water dispute that has shut down schools for days. Details of the offers weren't released but were both to include a compromise rate below the $14 per person surcharge that set off a quarrel between the commission and school board in December 2012.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) A Texas lawyer being sued by oil giant BP is asking for a delay in the trial while a criminal investigation plays out. The company says Mikal Watts falsesly claimed to represent thousands of deckhands who lost money in the 2010 Gulf oil spill. Watts' attorney has denied Watts engaged in fraud or identity theft.
WASHINGTON (AP) The Southwest Airlines pilots who landed at the wrong airport in Missouri say they were confused by the runway lights. The National Transportation Safety Board says the pilots board told investigators they saw the bright runway lights of Graham Clark Downtown Airport, located in Hollister, Mo., and mistakenly identified it as the larger Branson Airport, which is seven miles away.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) Nolan Ryan says he has just one disappointment about his tenure with the Texas Rangers - no World Series title. The Hall of Fame pitcher resigned three months ago as the team's chief executive and sold his ownership stake. He was back at Rangers Ballpark last night as the featured speaker at a banquet.
