AMARILLO, Texas (AP) The nation's only nuclear weapons assembly and disassembly plant has completed a high-pressure fire loop system aimed at improving safety and extinguishing potential fires. The Amarillo Globe-News reported yesterday that the project at Pantex in the Texas Panhandle came in $5.7 million below the $36 million budgeted for the project.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Authorities have searched a Central Texas home after an explosive device was found nearby earlier in the week. The Austin American-Statesman reports that those searching the home Friday included local officials as well as federal agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The home is near where a bomb containing C-4, a military-grade explosive not available to the public, was detonated Wednesday by the Austin Police Department bomb squad.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) More than two dozen dogs and other animals have been seized from a property in North Texas after being found with afflictions including intestinal parasites, malnourishment and dehydration. Staff members at the Human Society of North Texas told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that the property in northwest Parker County appeared to have been a "puppy mill."
NEW YORK (AP) The NBA has fined Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban $100,000 for confronting referees and using inappropriate language toward them Wednesday night. Cuban confirmed the fine on his Twitter feed, saying he couldn't let Commissioner David Stern leave without a proper farewell.
