DALLAS (AP) The jury at former Dallas Cowboys player Josh Brent's intoxication manslaughter trial has been dismissed for the night after a day of testimony in the sentencing phase. The Dallas jury will resume deliberating Brent's sentence tomorrow for a drunken car crash in December 2012 that killed his friend and teammate, Jerry Brown, who was a passenger in Brent's car.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Governor Rick Perry is defending Colorado and Washington's legalization of marijuana as a states' rights issue and says he wants to keep minor drug offenders out of jail. But the Republican added he doesn't see Texas legalizing pot. U.S. News and World Report quoted Perry at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland saying: "We certainly would never jump out in front of the parade."

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) A South Texas county commissioner has been indicted on a variety of corruption-related charges in Brownsville. Cameron County Commissioner Ernie Hernandez faces eight counts. Cameron County District Attorney Luis Saenz announced the indictment today. Hernandez is being held at the Cameron County jail awaiting bond.

HOUSTON (AP) A missing 17-year-old girl has been found dead in a Houston bayou and police say her boyfriend killed the teen because she wanted to date someone else. Houston police say the 19-year-old Luan Hoang Vu remained in the city jail without bond today on a capital murder charge.
