HOUSTON (AP) Parts of Texas could have wintry conditions going into the weekend as a cold front reaches the state. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for the Houston area from tonight to Friday morning. Forecasters say there's a chance of rain turning to sleet and snow by morning but with little or no accumulations.

POLLOK, Texas (AP) A worker has died in a tree-cutting accident in East Texas. The Angelina County Sheriff's Office says the victim was dead at the scene yesterday afternoon after a 20-foot section of tree fell on him. The man was identified as Lucio Vasquez of Groveton. The accident happened at a rural site about 125 miles northeast of Houston.

IRVING, Texas (AP) Retail gasoline prices across Texas have dropped by an average of 2 cents this week to $3.10 per gallon. Triple A Texas today reported the most expensive gasoline statewide was in El Paso at $3.15 per gallon. The industry survey found Amarillo continues to have the cheapest price at the pump at $2.97.

DALLAS (AP) Southwest Airlines is making more money thanks to a lower fuel bill and higher average fares. The company says today that fourth-quarter net income was $212 million, up from $78 million a year earlier. The average fare on Southwest is $156.05 each way, up $8 or 5.4 percent from a year earlier.
