ABILENE, Texas (AP) A West Texas woman interrupted her trial in her daughter's death when she collapsed in wails over display of the toddler's autopsy photos to jurors. Tiffany Klapheke (klah-PEEK') began crying, yelling and hyperventilating yesterday as the second autopsy photo of 22-month-old daughter Tamryn was displayed in the Abilene courtroom. The Taylor County jury will resume hearing testimony on Monday.
VICTORIA, Texas (AP) A South Texas man who authorities say was wanted for causing an auto wreck that killed two people has been apprehended in Arkansas. The Texas Department of Public Safety announced yesterday that 43-year-old Leo Click Junior was caught Wednesday near Alma in northwest Arkansas. Authorities say his vehicle in August crossed the center line and triggered a collision in South Texas that killed a 45-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A 16-year-old girl from Joshua, Texas who survived a fall of more than 3,000 feet in an Oklahoma skydiving accident last weekend has been discharged from an Oklahoma City hospital. OU Medical Center spokesman Scott Coppenbarger said Makenzie Wethington was expected to be transferred Friday to a Dallas-area rehabilitation facility.
HOUSTON (AP) Houston Astros right-hander Mark Appel, the first overall pick in the 2013 draft, is recovering after an appendectomy. Appel had the procedure in Houston on Thursday. General manager Jeff Luhnow says the team expects the pitcher will be able to report to spring training on time.
