AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis says her support of expanding gun rights in Texas includes allowing people with concealed handgun licenses to openly carry their weapons in public. The concept is known as "open carry" and it essentially allows license holders to carry a pistol on their hip without having to hide it. Davis' position aligns her with her Republican rival, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott.

UNDATED (AP) Winter is hitting much of Texas with a vengeance with light to moderate snow and wind chills of zero and below. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Texas Panhandle, the South Plains and the West Texas Rolling Plains through midafternoon Thursday. As much as 2 inches of snow is expected to accumulate west of an Eastland-Jacksboro-Bowie line. Temperatures were not expected to top the teens in the Panhandles and 20s in North and West Texas on Thursday.

WYLIE, Texas (AP) A North Texas animal sanctuary where seven big cats died of a viral outbreak last year is the new home for 13 new big cats, including 10 tigers. In-Sync Exotics Wildlife Rescue and Education Center near Dallas says three adult cougars are moving in, along with the 10 adult tigers. Last summer 22 cats lions, tigers and leopards tested positive for canine distemper at the height of the outbreak at the Wylie sanctuary. Seven died.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) An El Paso man faces up to 1 years in state jail after pleading guilty to urinating on the Alamo. Twenty-three-year-old Daniel Athens reached a plea deal that includes paying restitution of $4,000 to repair damage to the former mission's limestone facade. Athens was arrested April 14, 2012, after he was found urinating on a front wall of the shrine.
