DALLAS (AP) It's marriage number five for 85-year-old Texas oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens. He was married on Valentine's Day at his ranch in the Texas Panhandle to Toni Brinker. She's the widow of Dallas businessman Norman Brinker, who built a worldwide casual dining empire that included Chili's restaurants.
GARDEN RIDGE, Texas (AP) Preliminary autopsy results show a Colorado woman who died in Central Texas hanged herself. Thirty-three-year-old Leanne Bearden disappeared Jan. 17 after leaving the home of her husband's parents in Garden Ridge, located just outside of San Antonio. Her body was found Thursday in a thickly wooded area about a half mile from the house. She'd said she was going out for a walk.
DALLAS (AP) The merger of American and US Airways has made the combined company's chairman more than $13 million richer. Doug Parker took the helm of the combined airline. The company said that Parker exercised options that were part of his compensation while he was CEO of US Airways, and sold shares of US Airways that he bought in 2008.
HOUSTON (AP) The Texas Medical Board has temporarily suspended the license of a Houston abortion provider after determining he didn't follow a recently approved law requiring admitting privileges at a nearby hospital. The Austin-based board says Dr. Theodore Herring Jr. had performed 268 unlawful abortions and continuing his practice would be a "continuing threat to public welfare." A hearing on the suspension could be held in 10 days.
